BZBI’s Shabbat celebration for young children – in the Klinghoffer Chapel on Saturday mornings at 11:15 AM! The Tot Shabbat service engages the youngest members of our community in interactive Shabbat songs and stories. It is geared towards children 0-4 and their families, with older siblings always welcome! The atmosphere is casual – you and your little ones can relax, sing, and move around.

Brit Mitzvah (Bar / Bat Mitzvah)

Welcome to the BZBI Brit Mitzvah process! Our community thrives on personal interaction. Our goal is to help you create a memorable spiritual and personal event that respects Jewish traditions and embraces modern practices.

You may not be familiar with the term “Brit Mitzvah” which literally means “covenant of the commandments (contained in the Torah).” BZBI chose this term as a way to focus on the obligations of 13-year olds in joining the Jewish community, rather than referring to the person who is becoming a Bar or Bat Mitzvah (son or daughter of the commandments). We seek to emphasize the significance of the ritual as the start of lifelong learning and commitment to our community and its values.

Teen Programs

After your teen celebrates their Brit Mitzvah milestone, their Jewish education and passion for changing the world continues with:

Hebrew High’s Teen Beit Midrash meets Wednesdays 5:30-7:00pm

Teens learn alongside Rabbi Annie Lewis to cultivate their skills to navigate reading and discussing deep concepts within The Talmud.

If your teen is interested in reviving a USY chapter at BZBI, please contact education@bzbi.org.
